NCGM catering supplier prevents all of its waste from ending up in landfill, with all by-products reused, recycled or composted
New Covent Garden Market restaurant supplier Rushton’s has officially become a Zero Waste to Landfill business.
The certification proves that Rushton’s prevents all of its waste from ending up in landfill, ensuring that all by-products are either reused, recycled or composted.
The business said the milestone aligns with its commitment to a circular economy and minimising its environmental footprint.
By achieving Zero Waste to Landfill status, the company says it is focused on:
- Reducing waste: implementing effective waste management practices to minimise waste generation and promote recycling and reuse.
- Eliminating landfill waste: ensuring that all by-products are repurposed or composted, thereby significantly lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
- Promoting a circular economy: transforming organic waste into valuable resources, which contributes to a sustainable supply chain.
- Conserving natural resources: reducing the strain on landfill sites by diverting waste.
The achievement builds on the supplier’s ISO 14001 certification, an internationally agreed and recognised standard for environmental management systems (EMS).
Rushton’s director William Thorogood said: “We’re proud to set a standard in the industry. Responsible practices and environmental stewardship are integral to our operations and the future of fresh produce.
“Our Zero Waste to Landfill certification is a testament to our continuous dedication to creating a more sustainable future for our community and the planet.”
