This year’s British berries are more energy efficient than ever after one of the UK’s largest producers Berry Gardens upgraded their packaging equipment.
Packaging specialists Proseal rolled out upgrades on their machines in the tight gap between UK growing seasons, installing 34 new systems in berry growers’ packhouses from Kent to Aberdeenshire.
Their Eseal upgrades reduce the power-consumption of tray sealers, using 75 per cent less kW per hour and emitting 2.52kg less CO2 per hour, making them more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
“Given the timescale and the need to keep providing a quality service to our other customers, this was a big challenge,” explains Tony Burgess, head of sales and control systems at Proseal.
“However, we pride ourselves on our commitment to existing customers, and always make sure that new technology and developments are made available to them in the form of upgrades – especially where huge energy savings and performance enhancements are possible.”
Head of packaging at Berry Gardens, David McCormack, said: “With the new upgrades, the machines are not only faster and more energy efficient – they also perform better in terms of seal quality and product protection.”
