The third British Flowers Week has kicked off today (15 June) with an exhibition by flower designer Zita Elze promoting British larkspur.
Elze’s three designs include ‘Shadows’, a haute couture gown; ‘Painting with Flowers’, an artist’s garden in a vase; and ‘Simply Larkspur’, an elegant bouquet.
The nationwide campaign was founded to support British cut flowers, and is organised annually by New Covent Garden Flower Market. It is supported by florists, growers, wholesalers and the public though a programme of flower farm open days, workshops, talks, pop-up stalls and limited edition British flower bouquets.
It is promoted on social media through the hashtag #BritishFlowersWeek.
Flower consumers can also see what British flowers are available in what season using The British Flowers Chart, which can be downloaded for free from the campaign website.
