Three months ago, I set up Yog, frozen yogurt - a new concept for the UK market. Yog makes and sells 100 per cent fat-free probiotic frozen yogurt, using totally natural ingredients delivered fresh from the farm and topped with fresh fruit bought daily from London’s New Covent Garden Market.
Yog is a great, healthy alternative to ice cream and, topped with fruit, is a delicious way of contributing towards the daily fruit and vegetable target of 5 A DAY.
Everything on our menu is fresh and contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. We offer our customers a range of more than 15 healthy, tasty toppings, including almonds, bananas, blueberries, granola, kiwis, mangoes and strawberries. In addition to frozen yogurt we also make a ‘Yog blend’, which is a drinkable blend of Yog frozen yogurt and any three healthy toppings.
Central to a healthy diet is eating a variety of at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day, and it is vital to educate people about what this means in practical terms.
I strongly believe that by Yog featuring the official 5 A DAY logo on its products, we can help some way to educating people about the importance of eating fruit and vegetables and demonstrate how easy it can be to include fruit and vegetables in the daily diet.
It is fantastic to see people of all ages enjoying eating a Yog topped with fresh fruit. It makes a healthy and fun change from other on-the-go treats.
To further communicate the 5 A DAY message, we will also be producing Yog literature and promotional material, detailing the benefits of eating Yog fat-free frozen yogurt with fresh fruit.
For the last three months, Yog has been trading from one location - Brent Cross Shopping Centre in North London. The trial has proved so successful that we are now building plans to expand to a number of locations across London from early 2009.
Other plans include introducing a new range of toppings, which will include Goji berries and wheatgrass, set to launch this winter.
