Waitrose has created its first-ever ‘sprout wreath’ featuring the festive vegetable woven into foliage from Scottish fir trees.
The wreath is perfect for doors or as a striking candle centrepiece, according to Waitrose, which said it hit upon the idea as a new way of incorporating sprouts into the festive season.
Selling for £35, each wreath features a tag with the name of the grower and will be available from the start of December. The concept was developed in collaboration with Waitrose’s sprout supplier and a wreath maker who usually creates festive floral arrangements for the retailer.
Waitrose horticulture buyer Samantha Brett said: 'We wanted to create something more quirky as part of this year's festive horticulture offering. This seemed like a great opportunity to do something fun and creative with sprouts.'
Created as a joint venture between Waitrose, the retailer’s sprout grower and wreath maker who creates the festive floral arrangement for Waitrose.
“The sprout wreath is a limited edition decoration available in Waitrose Food & Home branches as a trial this year, but if popular will extend to more branches for Christmas 2018.”
