Veg Power, the not-for-profit alliance increasing the UK’s vegetable consumption, announced it has strengthened and diversified its board with the addition of four new members.

From this week, the Veg Power Board welcomes Simon Conway (current Chair of The British Tomato Growers Association with extensive horticulture experience); Tom Firth (experienced ad and comms leader and chair of IPA’s Sustainability Action Group); Tom Lindsay (food & drink M&A specialist and trustee of The Food Foundation) and Karen Schenstrom (business development director at Evesham Vale Growers).

In a statement, Veg Power said its board is responsible for supporting and guiding the organisation with its strategic direction, ”to ensure it continues to build on its successes and achieves its mission”.

Commenting on the development, Andy Porteous, chair of Veg Power’s board, said: “I’m delighted to welcome four really talented people to the Veg Power Board. Between them they bring understanding and excellence encompassing British growers, retailers, food brands and suppliers, communications and strategy. We look forward to Tom, Karen, Simon and Tom making a real impact in helping us get more families eating well in 2025.”

The new members join the existing Veg Power Board members Andy Porteous, Katie Palmer, Anne Heughan, Jo Ralling and Anna Taylor OBE.

Other Veg Power Board updates include Baroness Rosie Boycott and Sir John Hegarty stepping down from the board to become Veg Power Patrons.

Commenting on his appointment, British Tomato Growers Association chair Conway said: “I am excited to work alongside such a dedicated group of individuals to advance the cause of Veg Power. It has never been so important to influence the diet of children to contribute to the future health of the nation.”
