Regulatory councils and the organic agriculture committee in the eastern Spanish region of Valencia have come together to form a federation.
The new grouping includes the Citricos Valencianos regulatory council, the regulatory council for kakifruit from the Ribera del Xuquer, the council for almond-based confectionery product Turron de Jijona and Alicante, and the council for denomination of origin Utiel-Requena wines, as well as the organic agriculture committee for the region.
Juan Baptista Juan, of Citricos Valencianos, who became a joint secretary of the new federation, said: “The aim is to promote and communicate the culture and prestige of these products and their origins, and to put in place homogenous certification and control systems. We want to have a body that represents the interests of its members, and maintains an open forum.”
