Solstice Food's Liquid Food Composter (LFC)

NCGM restaurant supplier Solstice Food has invested £50,000 in a new Liquid Food Composter (LFC) that uses enzymes to convert food waste into clean water.

The machine, sourced from Dallas in the US, can process up to 60kg of waste an hour, and the clean water byproduct can then be used to clean drains. It is available in the UK through environmental technology business Power Knot.

Solstice generates about one tonne of food waste a day from its on-site preparation facilities.

Managing director Philip Britten said the company, which delivers to restaurants and foodservice outlets seven days a week, will continue to make changes to make the consumer more comfortable.

The company, which is soon to relocate from its current base at New Covent Garden Market to a site in Wimbledon, south west London, is also investing in a bailer to recycle cardboard more efficiently.
