The large Kent glasshouses have sent ripples through the salad trade in the last year

Giant greenhouse project Thanet Earth has landed the Best Local Grower gong at the Tesco Grower of the Year Awards.

Innovation, quality and service record were highlighted as reasons behind the judges’ decision to reward the complex for its tomato supply.

Thanet Earth was also nominated in the Best Environmental Grower category with just two other suppliers, while Hazel Akehurst from the marketing team at Thanet Earth was nominated by Tesco in the Best Rising Star category.

Representatives from all the Thanet Earth grower companies and from Thanet Earth Marketing were all in attendance at the awards dinner.

Steve McVickers, managing director of Thanet Earth Marketing, said: “We’re extremely proud to have won this accolade. It’s more recognition of the hard work going on day after day to deliver great products and services to our customers.”
