Banana giant Chiquita is celebrating after being ranked fifth in a US survey on brand equity.

The survey, called Equitrend, was carried out by global research agency Harris Interactive and ranked the banana brand as fifth out of more than 1,100 household brands.

Consumers above the age of 15 took part in a US-wide online survey to determine the table, voting on brands in more than 35 categories. Each brand received approximately 1,200 ratings. Votes were based on five key measures: familiarity, quality, purchase intent, brand expectations and distinctiveness.

“This independent research has reconfirmed the trust and value that consumers place in the Chiquita brand, which stands for fresh, healthy and high-quality produce,” said Fernando Aguirre, Chiquita chairman and CEO.

The number one Equitrend brand was Reynolds Wrap Aluminium Foil, followed by Ziploc Food Bags, Heinz Ketchup, Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Candy Bars and Chiquita bananas.
