Suppliers can check individual pesticide regulations

Suppliers can check their proposed pesticide usage (PPU) against retailer’s specific requirements using a new integrated software package.

The new pesticide management service is built into traceability and quality specialists Muddy Boots’ Greenlight quality assurance offer.

It will automatically cross-reference supplier PPU against the individual retailer’s pesticide requirements and specifications, using Fera’s comprehensive database.

It is the result of a partnership between Muddy Boots and the Food and Environment Research Agency (Fera).

In the past, suppliers would be required to manually cross-reference their PPU against specific requirements, costing both time and money.

The new automated system will also reduce human error to increase security in the supply chain.

Muddy Boots founder Jonathan Evans said the partnership comes at a key time in the company’s development.

He said: “This new functionality will bring huge value to the food supply chain; allowing retailers and shoppers to have total confidence that the produce available in store meets government and retailer standards for pesticides.”

Fera chief executive, Adrian Belton, said: “Our knowledge solutions experts have extensive experience in the design of products which allow producers and retailers to identify, manage and mitigate risks from a variety of potential food contaminants.

“We are pleased to be working with Muddy Boots on this new partnership, which will provide vital support to businesses involved in the food supply chain, from field to fork, ensuring high standards of food and environmental safety.”
