The first of this season’s organic mangoes from Senegal socio-economic organisation EcoPeace are expected to arrive in the UK on Wednesday 29 June.
Cooler temperatures in Senegal have led to a slight delay in the 2016 campaign, which markets the Kent, Baguinda and Smith mango varieties to independent retailers, markets and wholesalers across London.
The project uses no middlemen and relies on businesses and consumers ordering boxes online.
They are priced at £27.50 per box, or £4.50 for a jar of jam or chutney.
Situated in key Senegalese mango producing region of Niayes, the EcoPeace farm produces between 15 to 20 tonnes per harvest, which are certified organic by GlobalGAP.
