The 2010 Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards have received more than twice the number of entries received last year.

Some 218 entries have been received for the event, now in its ninth year.

The awards ceremony is to be held on 6 May in Forres and is one of the highlights of the recently announced Scottish Government’s Year of Food & Drink.

Industry judged the tasting categories on 8 April and a shortlist of successful entrants will be unveiled shortly.

Paul McLaughlin, chief executive of Scotland Food & Drink, said: “We have seen an extremely high calibre of entrants to this year’s Excellence Awards and I know the judges will have a tough decision on their hands deciding on the winners.”

Gareth Baird, director of food & drink of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, said: “The quality and quantity of entries to this year’s awards are testament to their growing kudos and popularity. We have also had significant interest in tickets for the event, showing that it’s certainly the top food and drink event in the calendar.”

Scotland Food & Drink is an industry-led organisation that aims to grow the value of Scotland’s food and drink sector, and make it more profitable.
