Scottish Rural Affairs cabinet secretary Richard Lochhead SMP launched Scotland’s Organic Action Plan at potato and root-crop grower Tio Ltd’s Morayshire farm.

The programme aims to identify and promote the advantages of organic farming in Scotland and covers all aspects from standards of organic food production, to the environmental benefits of biodiversity such as water and soil protection within the growing process.

The visit came as a support to Organic Futures - the strategy crafted by the Scottish government and Scotland’s organic sector to sanction organic food and drink in the country.

Stephen Ryan, operations director at Tio, said: “We are extremely proud to be pioneering the development of organic produce in Scotland. It was a great honour to welcome a member of the Scottish Parliament to the Tio site, to showcase our farming innovations.

“As a company we are seeking to expand our work throughout organic farming, increasing the availability and awareness of produce throughout Scotland and the UK as a whole.”

The event also enabled Tio to showcase its latest organic brand development, the Bare Necessities, which it hopes to roll out shortly.
