Riverford has been named best organic retailer at the Natural & Organic Awards 2013.
The organic vegetable box supplier beat finalists Waitrose and Field Fayre – the Organic Store to win the award.
Guy Watson converted the Riverford family farm in Devon to organic production methods in the 1980s and started delivering his vegetables to friends locally before expanding the vegetable box scheme nationwide to reach more than 40,000 homes a week.
Rob Sexton, CEO, of Soil Association Certification, says the award ceremony points to a positive future for the UK organic market.
He explained: 'We know there is a strong future in the UK organic market. Our recent 2013 Organic Market Report showed a number of areas where organic sales have increased significantly. It is an exciting time for organic textiles, cosmetics and independent retail with these sectors all experiencing growth. These awards highlight just some of the fantastic organic products available and the innovation taking place.”
The Soil Association hosted the show in London on 7 April.
