Fred Squire with Amber Salad Potatoes

Kent Potato Company has nearly doubled its sales in Lidl with its own branded potatoes, Amber.

The popular potatoes, which are the Celandine variety, are exclusive to the Kent Potato Company.

The firm claims to have bucked this summer’s trend of declining sales of salad potatoes, which has been attributed to the poor summer weather and fewer eating occasions for lighter meals with this type of potato.

The 750g packs are just starting to be harvested, and will continue to appear in store until next July.

Fred Squire, commercial account assistant at the Kent Potato Company, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of these salad potatoes, we have gone from strength to strength and even receive letters from customers saying how delicious they are.

'They have quite a bright yellow finish which makes them attractive on the plate and they are creamy and sweet with a textured taste.'

The potatoes are grown in Kent, and are packed in the Kent Potato Company’s factory in St Nicholas-at Wade, Kent.
