French potato supplier Parmentine has entered the convenience market with microwaveable pots of potatoes in three flavours.
The pots, available with a separate topping of either olive oil, tomato and basil or béarnaise sauce, are ready to eat after six minutes in the microwave. They are marketed under the slogan ‘Simplement Pomme de Terres’, to convey a clear message that they are ‘simply potatoes’.
They are aimed at the premium ready-to-go snack market, such as office workers on a lunch break, and will be commercially available from January.
Marketing director Thierry Lamblin said the pots are designed to “catch the eye” and will suit the UK market as well as the company’s existing customers.
“At the moment our presence in the UK is zero, but we want to expand this,” he said.
Lamblin was speaking at the company’s stand at the Sial trade fair, where a chef supervised tastings of the potato pots and bags of new variety Talentine were also displayed.
