Potato Council is looking to recruit new members to join its team of Potato Ambassadors.

While some of the current Ambassadors will stay in their existing role, the search for enthusiastic growers to join the dedicated team is currently underway.

The Ambassador role is a two-year appointment which can be extended if required. Applications close on 28 February.

Potato Council marketing manager, Kate Cox, said: “We are on the search for new Ambassadors to help spread the word that potatoes are healthy and sustainable as well as easy-to-prepare and great value for money.'

Robin Cropper, Potato Ambassador for the North-West of England, said: “I would encourage anyone that is considering becoming a Potato Ambassador to sign up and help spread the word that potatoes are nutritious and versatile. Potato growers are a passionate group of people; the role gives you the chance to pass on that enthusiasm not just to other growers but to a much wider audience.

“With so many great experiences to choose from, it’s difficult to pinpoint my favourite experience as an Ambassador during 2013; one that I’ll never forget is being asked to accompany Potato Council to Parliament to promote Maris Piper potatoes to MPs – they were really enthusiastic about how we produce tasty and nutritious food for the nation.”

The current team of Potato Ambassadors has worked hard to reinforce the positive messages about potatoes and has helped to build a closer affinity between the industry and consumers. From live radio interviews and attending events to appearing in local newspapers, the work of a Potato Ambassador involves a wide variety of activities. For more information, call Sheron Crystal on 024 7647 8869 or e-mail sheron.crystal@potato.ahdb.org.uk.
