Laurence Olins has received the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers' triennial Lewis Award for 'Distinquished Services to the Marketing of Fresh Fruit' at the Company’s Annual Banquet at Plaisterers’ Hall in London.

The Company’s new Master, Steven Bodger, presented the award at the event on 15 February. He said: “In addition to his crucial role managing successful businesses specialising in fruit sourced from the UK and around the world, he has during his 40-year career made an enormous contribution to the wider industry, as demonstrated by his work for British Summer Fruits (BSF) and Seasonal Berries, and all his inputs as a Liveryman and Past Master of Fruiterers.

“He is set apart from his peers by his extraordinary track record in managing a family business within a range of commercial environments, and his willingness to share his expertise and leadership with other industry organisations and suppliers.”

Olins became managing director of Poupart Ltd in 1986, moving on to the become executive chairman of the Poupart Group in 2007. During the course of his career, he has developed specialist businesses supplying a range of fruit to the major multiple retailers, the wholesale markets and the foodservice sector.

Under his leadership as chairman, BSF has developed highly successful promotional campaigns, proven by the significant growth in the consumption of berries in recent years.

His vision introduced the concept of the Winter Berry Campaign, allowing overseas suppliers of berries to be involved in year-round promotional activity under the banner of Seasonal Berries.
