Vegetable seed firm Nunhems has demonstrated its three newest leek varieties.
The firm was present at the recent bi-annual National Dutch Leek Day in Vredepeel, where the company received a high level of interest from Dutch growers, as well as others from Belgium, Germany, Poland, United Kingdom and Scandinavia, to see the latest trends in the leek market.
Nunhems' Lexton F1 was originally developed for the British pre-pack market, but the high level of uniformity and cleaning ability make it attractive for other markets which require a product with a smaller diameter.
For a short dark color Autumn leek, meanwhile, the firm believes Poulton F1 is the optimal variety.
And the third new variety, Krypton F1, offers a combination of very high yield and flexible harvest period.
Speaking about National Leek Day, which was held on October 11, Nunhems' crop sales manager Jakob Fausbøll, said:“The large number of local and international participants confirms the big interest in new developments within the leek sector.'
