Pink Lady apples are sponsoring a brand new food and wine pairing competition - What Food What Wine?
Part of the deal will see the premium apple brand provide the fruit for the apple crumble - one of 10 dishes for which judges will find the perfect wine match.
What Food What Wine’s marketing director David Kelly said: “We’re delighted to have the support of Pink Lady apples as a sponsor of the inaugural What Food What Wine? competition. It’ll be exciting to find out which wines are deemed to be a good match with apple crumble and custard.”
The competition will see world wine connoisseurs determine the best wine match for UK’s Top 10 dishes, including chicken tikka massala, bangers and mash, and fish and chips, as well as apple crumble and custard.
Andy Macdonald of Pink Lady licensor Coregeo, said: “We’re delighted to team up with What Food What Wine? to establish the best possible wine to go with Jo Pratt’s delicious Pink Lady apple crumble. Fruit can often be overlooked when it comes to making wine choices, so it’s great to be involved in a competition which will encourage people to feel more confident about experimenting when it comes to finding wines to go with their favourite foods and dishes.”
The judging panel includes the leading sommelier Gerard Basset, married Masters of Wine Susie Barrie and Peter Richards, and food and wine writer Fiona Beckett.
Food writer and broadcaster Jo Pratt will create the dishes and judging takes place next week
The judges’ menu also includes roast lamb, mushroom risotto, lasagne, smoked salmon, mature cheddar and rich chocolate mousse.
