The Bramley Facebook page

The Bramley campaign has launched a new social media competition aimed at getting consumers to experiment with the cooking apple.

The Great Bramley Bake In - which is launching to coincide with Bramley Apple Week on 2-8 February - challenges the public to compete for their culinary creations to be named best Bramley dish. Entries can be sweet or savoury, traditional or original recipes but must feature Bramleys as the key ingredient.

Entries are being accepted until 28 February on the Bramley apples' Facebook page and the public will vote for the top 50. An expert panel will then whittle this down to six, before the public again votes for the winner. The winner will receive a free weekend course at a top cookery school, with further prizes for each of the six finalists.

Celebrity chef Phil Vickery is working with the campaign and will feature as a judge, as well as creating six new Bramley recipes on the website.

Adrian Barlow, chief executive of English Apples & Pears, said it is the first time such a competition has been run for Bramleys, adding that it is now essential to be seen to be engaging with the public via social media.
