Aldi is launching what it describes as an affordable range of organic products in its UK branches - a range which the retailer claims will allow customers to save 25 per cent on their usual 100 per cent British organic basket.
The first such move by the discounter in the UK, the range will include potatoes, cauliflower, carrots, broccoli and onions, with prices ranging from 79p to £1.49, compared to the cost of equivalent organic goods sold at the UK's Big Four retailers (Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons), which range in price from 85p to £2.45.
As well as a range of organic products, the grocer is also set to extend its award-winning Specially Selected range in the UK - goods specially selected for what Aldi perceives to be their outstanding quality, ingredients, or provenance.
The latest expansion follows the ongoing success of Aldi’s premium range, which has seen a year-on-year sales increase in the UK of 74 per cent, and includes Specially Selected Imperator Carrots at £1.29.
Joint MD of corporate buying for Aldi's UK operations, Tony Baines, said: “Following customer feedback, we know our shoppers want to buy more organic products, but price is often the reason why it’s not a regular purchase. This is why we’ve launched a 100 per cent British organic range at an affordable everyday low price.
“At Aldi we believe it’s important for organic produce to be available to everyone. Our customers know we continuously work towards exciting them with our new offerings and that now, more than ever, they can buy their entire weekly shop at Aldi, safe in the knowledge they are purchasing the best quality products at everyday low prices. ”
The new lines are being launched over the coming months, with all products to be in place by January 2015.
