Chips

Choosing to smother your chips in curry sauce or drowning them in cheese and gravy can indicate what part of the UK you hail from, a new survey claims.

Research from online food ordering platform Hungry House claims to reveal that the majority of Londoners and those in the north-east like to pile on cheese and gravy, with Midlands residents firmly sticking to curry sauce (73 per cent).

Scots, meanwhile, apparently prefer their own unique 'chippy' sauce, with 68 per cent of respondents picking it as their chip topping of choice.

The study also claimed to have found a clear divide in terminology, with Londoners and southerners firmly sticking to the traditional fish ‘n’ chips moniker, while the more casual chippy is most common in the the north, Hungry House claims.

The UK has around 10,500 fish and chip shops.
