Spanish citrus supply chain and promotional body Intercitrus is in danger of disappearing, as producer representatives reject a proposed budget and call for an overhaul of the organisation.

The problems surfaced at the group’s agm on July 16, and a special meeting called by newly elected president and veteran citrus exporter Antonio Muñoz at the end of last week failed to achieve an agreement between the different parties.

A further meeting of Intercitrus’s governing committee is scheduled for July 31.

Time is running out for the organisation, as Muñoz said on his election that if budgets for the 2008-09 season could not be agreed by August 16, then he would tender his resignation and propose the closure of the body.
