IMA Cooling Systems has been awarded a major national prize for excellence in the training of its young engineers.

The King’s Lynn-based business triumphed in being recognised for the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Young Engineers Network (YEN) awards.

At an awards ceremony at London City Hall, service manager Richard Corby and newly graduated engineer Shaun Dugard were awarded two trophies and £1,000 towards CIBSE training.

The CIBSE are the national organisation responsible for setting and maintaining standards for the design, installation and maintenance of industrial and commercial buildings across the UK and are Internationally recognised as a leader in innovation, environmental awareness and design standards.

IMA specialises in cold rooms and technically advanced pre-cooling, cold storage and packing complexes for suppliers of produce including organic carrots and parsnips, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes and prepared vegetables to the major UK supermarkets.

So far in 2010 the company has built a new strawberry holding store for EC Drummond, a rapid cooling chiller for Angus Soft Fruits, a new soft-fruit packhouse for MT Mitchell, a suite of low energy usage potato stores at St Nicholas Court Farms in Kent among other projects.

CIBSE’s YEN awards look at all of the UK’s engineering companies working in this field and assess their approach towards training their engineers, with special emphasis being put on the development of young engineers within the organisation.
