The shortlist for the prestigious Heart of England fine foods (HEFF) Diamond Awards 2010 has been revealed and there is stiff competition in the new fresh produce category.

The Diamond Awards celebrate the food and drink available in the Heart of England region, which includes Shropshire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Birmingham and the Black Country.

The judging for the HEFF Diamond Awards was held at the Albright Hussey Manor Hotel, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, in February and the shortlist was announced at Food & Drink Expo at the NEC, Birmingham.

Shortlisted in the fresh produce category, sponsored by Hatchers Solicitors LLP, is Gamber Produce Ltd, Herefordshire, for its Maris Piper Chateau potatoes, Manor Farm Fruits, Staffordshire, for its Jubilee strawberries, and Flights Organic Orchard, Herefordshire for its Red Pippin apple and also its Red Windsor apple.

The winners of each of the product categories, which also include bakery and meat, will then go head to head to win the highly coveted Special Diamond Award for Taste, sponsored by Musgrave Retail Partners.

In addition to the product awards, there will once again be the Special Diamonds Awards of Grow, sponsored by Business Link West Midlands; Innovate, sponsored by the West Midlands Regional Food Academy and Excel, sponsored by Advantage West Midlands. These awards recognise business achievement in the food and drink industry.

The winners of the HEFF Diamond Awards will be announced at the awards Gala Dinner on 15 May at Aston Villa Football Club, Birmingham.
