Healthy lifestyle advocate, A-Life, has been granted the 5 A DAY Just Eat More (fruit and veg) logo to use on its website and campaign resources.

A-Life aims to improve children’s health and wellbeing through education, and provides an in-school service to support teachers and encourage children to see the benefits of a leading an active, healthy lifestyle.

A-life coaches lead healthy living workshops and fun fitness sessions in schools, pictured, to teach children and parents about easy steps they can take towards a healthier lifestyle, such as eating 5 A DAY and exercising more regularly. The coaches also provide each child with a ‘fitness challenge’, which sees them recording the exercise they do in their spare time. If completed successfully, children are awarded an achievement certificate.

The 5 A DAY message is now an integral part of A-Life’s programme, as the founders feel that it is a simple, achievable message that children can understand. One of A-Life’s workshop games, Get 5 A DAY, is now one of the children’s favourite, and many of the company’s other activities include pictures of fresh fruit and veg. In addition, A-Life coaches frequently challenge children to try fruit that they may not have tasted before.

The company plans to include the 5 A DAY logo on future materials, including a series of fitness leaflets and certificates to remind children of the benefits of eating more fruit and veg. For more information, visit www.a-life.co.uk

TAYLOR-MADE SOLUTIONS FOR 5 A DAY PRINCIPLES

Fresh fruit and veg retailer Taylor Produce, has been granted a licence to use the 5 A DAY Just Eat More (fruit and veg) logo.

The Southport-based company, which has been supplying high-quality fruit and veg to the local area for three generations, prides itself on providing locally sourced produce that goes from harvest to the shelves in less than 24 hours.

When not in season, the company hand selects fresh produce from wholesale markets around the world, to give a global feel to their fruit and veg selection. During the summer months, Taylor Produce grows and sells its own tomatoes whilst always supporting locally grown seasonal fruit and veg.

Taylor Produce actively promotes the 5 A DAY message, with staff encouraged to wear the 5 A DAY logo on their T-shirts.

The company also supplies many of the local schools with fresh fruit on a daily basis.

Taylor Produce plans to expand the business and open an additional retail outlet in Chorley, where it will also open a new smoothie health bar, Fruit Explosion. The smoothies will all be made with fresh produce, sourced locally when possible.
