One study tour will visit Evesham Vale Growers' tomato glasshouses

Welsh vegetable and salad growers are being urged to sign up for the final few places for two upcoming study tours to leading English produce firms, organised by Horticulture Wales.

A tour to Nottingham-based packer and marketer Hammond Produce will cover production of carrots, parsnips, pumpkins, and rhubarb, as well as its ‘Garden of Innovation’ – a mixed plot where new and unusual crops are trialled.

The second study tour will visit salad and asparagus producer Evesham Vale Growers, in Worcestershire, and is described as particularly suitable for growers of salads and protected crops such as spring onions, courgettes, and asparagus.

It will include a field visit to see examples of standing crops, a tour of the farm’s packing and distribution facilities, a tour of the 30 acres of tomato glasshouses, and the chance to view the company’s Anaerobic Digestion system.

Both tours take place on Tuesday 23 June, with some transport and accommodation options available, subject to demand.

“These will be the final two study tours we stage before the current Horticulture Wales project concludes at the end of June. Therefore we urge growers across Wales to take advantage of these two great opportunities to meet and learn from other successful businesses,” Horticulture Wales’ communications offier, Chris Owens.

Places are limited and available on a first come, first served basis, and interested growers should contact Horticulture Wales on 01978 293967 or email horticulturewales@glyndwr.ac.uk.
