Getting BAC to old Bramley ways

The Bramley Apple Campaign (BAC) is hoping to turn around a decline in family traditions and get more families sharing mealtimes together.

Research commissioned by the group showed than less than a third of UK families share mealtimes and as few as three per cent cook together.

As part of Bramley Apple Week which runs from February 6-12, the campaign group has developed a new recipe booklet - A Fresh Look at Cooking with Bramley Apples. The aim of the recipes is to encourage young adults, families and children to get back in the kitchen and spend more time together.

The BAC research found that 60 per cent of adults let commuting and housework interfere with spending mealtimes as a family. And 33 per cent of young professionals said watching television is the biggest reason not to spend time with the family.

“Despite today’s time pressures and distractions, we do value the traditional after all,” said a BAC spokesperson. “A roast dinner followed by a traditional British pudding was voted by families as the top meal to be shared together. A third voted for British classics such as apple pies and crumbles as their favourite dessert.”
