Land under organic agriculture and horticulture in Germany rose to top 1 million hectares last year, according to Germany organic trade body BOLW. This marks an increase of 2.3 per cent year on year and means that the area under organic production now represents six per cent of total agricultural land in Germany. The number of organic companies also increased, by 4.8 per cent year on year, to 23,002 from 21,942. BOLW said that despite this growth, demand for organic products in the German market is still outstripping supply.
