Food redistribution charity FareShare has announced the appointment of Simon Millard as its new director of food, after the retirement of former head of food, Jo Dyson.
Millard’s most recent roles include UK commercial director at IRI, and channel Ddrector at Premier Foods. He has a degree in Business Management from the University of Nottingham, and had previously worked in commercial roles in Mars for almost 10 years.
Millard said: “FareShare contributes significantly to the UK’s environmental efforts to reduce food waste, by turning surplus food into social goodness for the 10,500 charities we provide with food, delivering millions of meals per year. I’m incredibly proud to join FareShare to lead the team that partners with the UK food industry, helping businesses use their surplus food to achieve charitable outcomes. Having worked in the UK food industry for 20 years, I’m inspired by FareShare’s mission and look forward to helping FareShare provide even more impact environmentally and socially.”
FareShare CEO Lindsay Boswell, said: “We’re delighted to have Simon join FareShare. He brings with him a wealth of experience to this new role and will help us reach our ambitious targets to redistribute even more surplus food to charities over the coming years”.
FareShare is the UK’s biggest charity fighting hunger and food waste. It takes surplus good-to-eat food, which is unsold or unwanted by the food industry, sorts it in one of its 30 regional warehouses, and passes it onto a network of more than 10,500 charities and charity groups.
These organisations then turn this food into meals for vulnerable families and individuals, many of whom are at risk of hunger, and struggling with unemployment, low income, debt, homelessness, family break up, dependency or other issues.
Two-thirds of the charities accessing FareShare food support children and families.
