The Co-operative Group has signed up to a massive energy-saving project.

Evolve Energy is helping the UK’s fifth-largest supermarket chain achieve a 25 per cent cut in energy use across the group. So far, 260 stores have been fitted with energy efficiency systems in the first phase of the project and savings have reached 18Gwh a year - equivalent to the energy use of 800 homes.

Alex Pitman, group energy efficiency manager for The Co-operative, said: “We are extremely pleased with the results that Evolve has achieved for us across this first phase. The Co-operative has always had a pro-active stance on climate and energy issues and this partnership reaffirms that.”
