Channel Four host fronts summer avo promo

The South African Avocado Growers’ Association (SAAGA) is hoping to make this year’s Summer Avocado Month campaign in July even more successful than last year, by enlisting the support of Channel Four presenter Nicky Hambleton-Jones.

The month of avocado activities kicks off with a week-long radio promotion on Magic FM, from June 26 to July 2 where listeners will learn more about the versatility of the fruit and have the chance to win a two-night spa break.

SAAGA’s general manager Derek Donkin said Hambleton-Jones, the host of popular Channel Four series Ten Years Younger, was an ideal frontrunner for the campaign.

“We are very excited about Nicky’s involvement in our campaign,” he said. “Being South African and an avocado lover she is the perfect spokesperson for us.”

The campaign, “Summer Avocados, Fresh from the South African Sun”, aims to promote the healthy eating benefits and versatility of the avocado - for salads, summer soups, starters, smoothies and a number of main course dishes.

This year’s press campaign running throughout July will focus on a new consumer booklet about avocados.

Introduced by Hambleton-Jones the booklet includes a number of both healthy eating and beauty-based avocado recipes, which the presenter will talk about in national and regional radio interviews.

In addition, the Summer Avocado website, www.summeravocados.com has had a revamp in time for next month. The new-look website includes avocado information, images and many avocado recipes.
