Peter Buckles of Notcutts Garden Centre has been honoured for his services to the industry with a Royal Horticultural Society 40 Years Long Service medal.
Buckles, plantaria manager at the Woodbridge firm, began his career as a nursery apprentice, joining the centre at 1979 as plantaria supervisor.
He explained: “My job is so varied that I don’t have time to be bored. I particularly enjoy dealing with the public and helping them with their choice of plants.”
Garden centre managing director Michael Cole added: “This is a very special achievement and it is right that it is marked with this prestigious award.”
Buckles received his commemorative medal, certificate and a lapel badge from Notcutts chairman Charles Notcutt.
