The industry is bracing itself for British Food Fortnight - one of the biggest celebrations of food produced on these shores in the calendar.

Taking place from September 19 to October 4, a number of high-profile events are planned for the campaign, now in its eighth year, which looks to promote and support the UK food industry.

More UK supermarkets than ever before are participating in the event with in-store promotions, while a number of famous establishments including Wembley Stadium, Grey Gables Hotel in Radio 4’s The Archers, the Cabinet Office, the BBC, John Lewis and the National Trust are involved in the event this year.

They are joined by eight of the largest foodservice organisations, six major pub groups, all the chef associations, the Youth Hostel Association, Anchor Care Homes and many others putting British food on the menu during the two weeks.

The BBC’s celebrity chefs, the Hairy Bikers, will also lead a network of 9,000 chefs in teaching children across the UK how to cook.

Last year, British Food Fortnight was credited with helping to increase the proportion of British food sourced by government departments to 66 per cent. NHS Trusts, school catering services and major government departments, including the Cabinet Office, are joining in the national celebrations this year.
