Branston has launched a new potato brand called Nanna Tate aimed at evoking the nostalgia of potato dishes while adding a “modern twist”.

Available exclusively at Tesco (in selected stores and online), the brand will include a range of varieties “carefully selected to create the creamiest mash, fluffiest roasties and crispiest chips”.

According to Branston, all the varieties have undergone extensive testing for different cooking methods to ensure they give “a great all-round performance”.

The producer explained that the varieties have been selected for their smooth texture, slightly sweet and buttery taste, and bright colour, meaning they are well-suited to lots of different recipes.

The varieties also have natural pest resistance, a higher percentage of larger potatoes, and lower demand for fertiliser, according to Branston.

Explaining their reasons for launching a brand, the supplier said: “We wanted to connect directly with consumers to share our passion for potatoes, providing inspiration on pack and raising their profile online and in the media.

“There are lots of competing carbs out there, so we’re using bold, bright packaging to really stand out in the fixture and draw more people in.

“We want to challenge the myth that you can’t eat potatoes as part of a healthy diet. Potatoes are the original natural superfood and they’re packed with essential nutrients your body and brain needs to fuel itself, while keeping you feeling fuller for longer.”

Nanna Tate is Branston’s first branded launch to incorporate a range of potatoes across multiple categories. In February, the company will follow up with a Nanna Tate prepared potato range, adding a “unique twist” to classic potato dishes.
