Foodservice supplier wins Footprint Award for training programme to help customers become more sustainable

Brakes recognised at Foodservice Footprint Awards for sustainability training programme

Brakes was presented with the award at a ceremony in central London

Brakes has won the Stakeholder Engagement Award at the Footprint Awards for its sustainability training programme for UK staff.

The awards, which were presented at a ceremony in London on 13 June, recognise suatainability in the foodservice sector.

As part of the Brakes training programme, Britain’s leading foodservice wholesaler recently joined forces with the Knowledge Labs sustainability consultancy from tech firm Nutritics.

The initiative delivers bespoke training to Sysco colleagues so they can support foodservice customers in becoming more sustainable.

The programme contains eight modules, including key sustainability topics such as climate change, carbon footprinting, operational sustainability, healthy and sustainable diets, and food waste.

Additionally, Sysco GB’s 15 development chefs have received training to understand the main challenges for a sustainable food system at every stage of the food chain.

This includes advice on how to best produce and deliver more plant-forward, healthy and sustainable dishes.

CEO at Sysco GB, Paul Nieduszynski, said: “This award is fantastic recognition for our groundbreaking programme.”

He added: “We know that the food we sell is by far the biggest portion of our carbon footprint. We want to transform our sales teams into sustainability champions so that they can help customers to develop more sustainable menus.”
