AgriSense-BCS is celebrating winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the international trade category for the third time in its history.

A developer and manufacturer of insect pest monitoring and control systems and devices that use pheromones or other attractants, it is one of just two companies from the agricultural sector to have been granted the award.

David Loughlin, director of sales and marketing, said the company was thrilled to receive the accolade, which was given in recognition of its growth by more than 70 per cent in the last three years; both in agriculture and non-crop business. He said: “We have had to strive hard over the last 25 years to be in the place where we are today, but confidently consider ourselves to be the second-biggest supplier of viable alternatives to pesticides since joining forces with Suterra.”

Since the acquisition by the US company in 2006, AgriSense has shared responsibility for global expansion with its parent company, with exports now representing more than 90 per cent of AgriSense sales. “We are still in the process of a technology transfer, bringing products previously manufactured in the US to the UK and vice versa,” said Loughlin.

AgriSense has also embarked on a programme of expansion by building teams in overseas markets and has increased its presence in Spain, where it has a team of four people, and is looking at options for Italy. The company also exports to the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.
