Israeli breeding specialist Zeraim Gedera (ZG) had chef Eyal Shani on its stand during the show whipping up a range of pepper- and tomato-based dishes for passers-by, as part of its A Sense of Taste campaign.

“People have really enjoyed the food,” Tal Franck, ZG marketing manager, told freshinfo. “Last year we had Israeli hip-hop group Shakatak to bring the sense, and this year Eyal Shani is bringing the taste.”

The company was also introducing new pepper variety Conic Sweet, a short, sweet pepper, similar in shape to Ramiro but much smaller. Vertically integrated marketing specialist Gerry Kelman said: “The big advantage of the Conic Sweet, as opposed to our blocky pepper varieties, is that it grows well in UK conditions. It is currently being grown in Guernsey and trials are due to take place in the north of England too.”

Another recent addition to the firm’s range on display at Fruit Logistica was a 5kg bag, developed with Israeli modified atmosphere packaging firm Stepac, aimed at transporting baby cucumbers by sea, instead of air.
