Zespri profits down

New Zealand kiwifruit marketing company Zespri International has announced an unaudited, net profit after tax of some NZ$27.8 million (£11.12m) for the half-year to September 30, 2005. The figure is 5.6 per cent down on the same period last year.

The reason for the decline is a 6.6 per cent fall in net global kiwifruit sales to NZ$742.6m on the 2004 figure. This is due to the strength of the NZ dollar as well as difficult market conditions globally.

“In terms of net global kiwifruit sales, the full year result is expected to fall only slightly short of the NZ$1billion posted last year,” said Zespri ceo Tim Goodacre.
