The Yorkshire Agricultural Society has won a major award for its Great Yorkshire Show website in the Yorkshire Digital Awards.

The site, www.greatyorkshireshow.co.uk, won the ‘Best Not-For-Profit’ category and was praised by the judges for its ease of accessibility and its wide range of online features including live video footage of the Great Yorkshire Show over the three days of the event.

Nigel Pulling, chief executive of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, said: “Farming is a time-honoured industry, and many people associate the Great Yorkshire Show with the traditions of farming, so it is a delight to be recognised for our efforts to adopt new media as a way of communicating with our both our visitors and exhibitors”

“The website attracts an average of 20,000 visitors per month; it is a powerful marketing tool and we are seeing that year on year, more and more visitors are purchasing tickets for the event using the web.”

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society is a registered charity and organises both the Great Yorkshire Show and Countryside Live, and in addition the value of the support it provides to regional farming and countryside initiatives has risen to nearly £1m.
