Yorkshire-based family business Scholes has been awarded the Arable Food Chain Marketing accolade in Farm Business Magazine's 2007 Food and Farming Industry Awards.

The award, presented on November 16 at the House of Commons, recognises farmers leading by example in the effective promotion of the arable food chain.

“We are absolutely thrilled,” said Rachel Scholes, managing director of Scholes.

“Many will know us for our background in potatoes, but we feel really strongly about moving forward with new and distinctive products for our customers.”

Scholes, which was established in 1967, will soon to launch its pioneering frozen Flageolet beans, which are a first in the UK market, and the grower is currently growing Yorkshire's largest commercial crop of chicory.

Celebrity chef Rachel Green has been commissioned by the business to devise recipes for each of its new vegetables and its website is being redesigned to feature these recipes.
