The World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) opened its annual Wholesale Market Awards with an emphasis on environment-friendly business at its conference in Prague two weeks ago.
The awards were unveiled by WUWM chairman Graham Wallace at the closing of the event and will encourage entrants under the theme of the ‘Sustainable Operation of Markets’.
The awards aim to highlight the sustainability of members’ market operations through the innovative use of existing or new technologies.
The judges for this year’s awards were also announced, with former Hamburg Market md Wolf Rohde, marketing economist Olivio Argenti and Michel Ganneau, former secretary general of Rungis Market, among the panel.
Last year, markets in Hamburg, Seoul, Sydney and London were among the winners, with innovation and community support proving key factors in their victories.
Awards submissions, which will be in the form of an electronic report or materials, close on August 10, with the ceremony taking place in the Eiffel Tower on September 25 to close the union’s next wholesale conference in Paris.
