The World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) and the European Fresh Produce Association (Freshfel Europe) have announced the completion of a co-operation agreement.

The two organisations have identified issues of common cause.

These include: following up any regulations related to food safety and to begin a proposal for a revised and improved definition of wholesale markets, which will be submitted to the EU.

It is also intended to write a 'Good Practice Guide' for wholesale market authorities, which will be completed by a joint working group that will consult with representatives of wholesalers, retailers and consumer groups.

The guide will be applicable to all stages of the wholesale business.

WUWM chairman Marc Spielrein and Philippe Henri, chairman of the wholesale and distribution division of Freshfel have both welcomed the agreement.
