Family-run Yorkshire grower WS Bentley has won a place in the finals of the Taste of Yorkshire Awards 2008.

The judges named the mixed beans and alfalfa from its And Sow On range of sprouting seeds and beans as one of the three best in the grower’s category.

The And Sow On range, which has recently been awarded a Gold Star by the Guild of Fine Foods, can be found in selected Co-op and Spar stores, as well as in Yorkshire’s Waitrose stores.

Both varieties of sprouting seeds and beans are sown, nurtured, grown and harvested to ensure maximum freshness.

Jan Bentley, managing director of WS Bentley, said: “Our varieties of sprouting seeds and beans are all grown with nothing added but water, producing just plain goodness. It is very satisfying for us to know that our hard work has paid off and are now recognised as one of Yorkshire’s finest fresh food producers.”

The awards, now in their third year, celebrate the quality, flair and attention to detail of Yorkshire’s best food producers.

The winners will be announced at a dinner on September 25 in the Guildhall in York, as part of the York Festival of Food and Drink 2008.
