Worldwide Fruit on IGD shortlist

Worldwide Fruit has been shortlisted in two categories of the IGD Food Industry Awards 2004.

The Canterbury-based marketing desk is amongst the finalists in both The ECR Award for On-Shelf Availability and The Ian MacLaurin Award for Supply Chain Excellence, both for its groundbreaking work on RFID for M&S - featured in last week's Journal.

In the former category, the company has been selected for "using RFID and bespoke software to improve fresh produce availability in M&S" and in the latter for being "asked by M&S to install RFID, Worldwide Fruit designed bespoke software to track products".

The awards highlight best practice in the food and grocery sector, and showcase the finest examples of creativity and commitment in business and in the community. The winners will receive their awards on October 19 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.

WWF is battling it out with giants such as Coca-Cola & BP, Coors Brewers and PepsiCo/Walkers Snack Foods in the ECR category, while its compoetiotion for the Ian MacLaurin Award, which recognises a company that has had a real impact on the supply chain, demonstrating a major step change over and above everyday trading requirements, with sustainable initiatives, includes Nisa Today's, Oakland International and Somerfield.

Somerfield has been nominated for moving forecasting for fresh produce to centralised replenishment. In other areas, Asda has been shortlisted in The Unilever Award for Consumer Insight, for its Tell the Local Team initiative, while Budgens and the Co-op are in the last group vying for The John Sainsbury Award for Learning and Development, Budgens for its fresh food training for fresh food teams and the Co-op for Eureka - a board game which delivers customer service training for teams.
