Worldwide Fruit announcement

Steve Maxwell of leading supermarket supplier Worldwide Fruit has said that for legal reasons the company will not be making an announcement about its restructure until Monday next week. The company, which is the largest marketing desk for UK apples and pears and a joint venture between UK growers, importer Geest and New Zealand exporter Enza, has been the subject of trade rumour s about its future for several weeks.

Meanwhile, as reported in last week's Journal, Somerfield is stocking UK Braeburn for the first time this season. Pictured here are, left to right: Robin Barnett, Worldwide Fruit marketing manager, Michael Joyles, WWF business unit director, Tony Conlon, Somerfield's store manager at Uckfield in Sussex, and Margaret James, Somerfield's category buyer, fruit.

They were in Uckfield last weekend to take part in the store's promotion of English Braeburn, which featured a car park banner extolling the virtues of supporting British growers, a cheerleader on stilts and copious volumes of English Braeburn.
