Port of Tilbury

Work has started on NFT's unique port-centric logistics centre in Tilbury, London this week (w/c 13 July).

Located at one of the largest dockside facilities in Europe, the logistics centre is strategically positioned to provide optimum inbound solutions for importers, regardless of the point of entry into the UK’s south east.

NFT, the UK’s market leader in chilled food distribution, celebrated its 'spade in the ground' moment at a prestigious industry briefing at the Port of Tilbury.

Over 150 key movers and shakers from 75 companies in the importing, retail and manufacturing world attended the event to hear about NFT’s game changing investment.

The theme, ‘Discover a New World of Port-Centric Logistics’, informed attendees about the increasing demand for imports and how to leverage this opportunity through reduced food miles, thus extracting additional value throughout the supply chain.

Dale Fiddy, NFT sales and marketing director, said: “This event showcased the huge potential for importers, manufacturers and retailers. It was incredibly well attended, which signifies the immense demand for our proposition. Our concept is very simple. By offering true seamless end-to-end logistics solutions, from factory of origin to port of entry, warehousing, and onward distribution to the UK market, the financial and environmental opportunities are endless.”

Perry Glading, chief operating officer at Forth Ports, owner of the Port of Tilbury, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many industry guests to Tilbury. This new chill facility is a major investment for the Port and NFT and we are encouraged by the level of interest in the facility. By being based at the Port, NFT’s customers will benefit from being at the heart of an unrivalled logistics process.”

The distribution centre is due to be open for business by late 2015. It will have capacity for 25,000 pallets within 230,000 sq ft and be able to handle a throughput in excess of 2.5 million cases per week.
