Traders at one of the UK’s largest wholesale markets have been warned that vigilance is needed to stave off a spate of fraud which has penetrated the fresh produce trade.
In an update on news at the market, the Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA) urged its tenants to be alert to identity fraud.
According to advisors to the CGMA, goods stolen through identity fraud could be routing their way through UK wholesale markets.
The CGMA said: “We are urging companies to be vigilant with their suppliers and make sure that they are dealing with the actual company and not a ‘front’ impersonating that company.
“By checking your systems and processes thoroughly you can minimise the risk of identity fraud.”
